I always suffered with eczema badly when I was a baby. Unfortunately, it’s one of the things I’ve passed on to all 3 of my children, especially my youngest child.
There’s something horrible about seeing your child itching with an Eczema flare up. If I could take away the pain and itching I would do it in an instant. My young son suffered with it really badly and would constantly itch when he was a young baby.
I felt really helpless. I chatted to my child’s GP and they prescribed a steroid and an emollient.
I chose not to use the steroid. There’s something about that word that just scares me, and I thought it might be too much for a two-year-old’s son. The emollient helped a little but I was searching for a natural solution.
I’ve been reading lots about how harsh the products we use on our little ones.
Now, after doing my research I understand things a little bit more. Obviously, moisturising is crucial for healthy skin but eczema is usually caused by an inflammation of the gut – typically caused by diet.
I understood that the harshness of the products I’d been using to moisturise were also not ideal.
I experimented a little, and made a natural moisturiser. I now regret not doing this when the first signs of eczema showed up. It had a transformational impact…

Take a look at this video for a quick guide on mixing and whipping the ingredients together. Written instructions are below.
This recipe stopped the itching and redness for my son within a few days, it also left my skin feeling great – and I don’t have to worry about what’s in it. I know exactly what’s in it.
You can make it quickly using the simple recipe below.
Ingredients:
6 tablespoons Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
4 tablespoons Unrefined Shea Butter
¾ tablespoon Castor Oil
1.5 tablespoons of Calendula Oil
2 teaspoons Vitamin E Oil
9 drops Tea Tree Oil
15 drops Lavendor Oil
Method
- Melt together the coconut oil, Shea Butter and Castor Oil in a bowl over a heated pan of water (heat on low)
- Cool in the fridge for 30 minutes until it is just solidified – don’t leave it too long!
- Then, simply mix with a hand mixer for 2-3 minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients and whip for 3 minutes until it looks like this.

- Pour mixture into a sterilised jar with lid. Done!
- If it goes watery then it’s too warm. Put it back in the fridge until it’s just solidified and whip again.
It goes without saying with all skin care you have to be so careful to avoid flare ups and allergic reactions. Always consult your doctor before trying new things, and test a small patch of the cream on your wrist before applying more widely.
Everybody’s skin is different so you may well need to vary the recipe to your preference.
